"Growing up in Cornwall, I have always had a deep appreciation of the coast and the countryside, but find myself focusing more closely on the trees found at my home in Heligan. Trees fascinate me. I see them very much as characters; and, like us, changeable, with the seasons, weather, and time of day. When painting, I let the trees and their moods dictate my painting style. By concentrating on the subtle, extraordinary, and sometimes profound beauty to be found in the trees that surround us, I am hoping to encourage a greater appreciation of these omnipresent guardians of our countryside. I think nearly everyone has a favourite tree: one that they will remember climbing; perhaps laying on their back, staring up through its branches; having a picnic under on a warm summer's day; or carving their name..."
